New Vector Illustration Popstars Emote: Pink's Reasons

I started a series of vector illustrations in 2010 in my spare time to get better at illustrating. I chose pop singers because I wanted someone who was easily recognizable. I guess I thought it would help to keep me accountable and not be able to say, "Oh, it's a random model." if it didn't turn well. And you know I am all about trying something new and executing flaws and all.

The latest one I finished recently is Pink and was my first time working with tattoos and short hair. Since I don't have them posted anywhere else I will post the others in order of completion.

I love to show the paths and this screenshot turned out really well.

New Brushes, New Experiments

So do you remember this? I posted a couple of months ago about my failed attempts at making brushes and how the brushes ended up making some fun abstract art. Well, I have been working on some other things and ended making more brushes that I thought I could use to make more abstract vector illustrations. I have been in a really summery mood and used summery colors Here are some new lines:

Look Inside My Notebook: Zentagle Flowers and Scrolls

I have always enjoyed drawing and zentangles really a big stress reliever for me. I prefer to use a regular composition notebook to draw in because these are just quick, stress free, no pressure drawings. I use pen so I don't doubt myself and can embrace my mistakes. It's not about perfection. It's about expression, learning, exploration.
I keep my notebook like a journal and it is where I keep my thoughts. I am not always good with words but this is a great way for me to get out what I am feeling. Can you tell that I am feeling like it is time for Spring and warmer temps?

Inside Jokes, Dreams, and a Birthday Present All in One.

I haven't blogged much in March. Want to see what I have been working on?
Yeah, that's all vector. Yeah, it was a monster and I have never taken on an illustration challenge like it. And yeah, I probably never will again because I might be going blind and have onset carpal tunnel. Like a lot of my other work is an inside joke between me and my boo. I started it 2 years ago as a birthday present for him but then school and life got busy and I never finished it. 2 years later it is a couple of days before his birthday and I JUST finished it. I hope he loves it as much as I do.

Do you enjoy seeing the outline view on a vector illustration as much as I do. Let's look at those paths.

Lamp

I have been wanting to play with the gradient mesh tool for some time now, and the lamp on my desk had some very pretty shapes to it. Which means, it's time for an illustration. This of course, was done in illustrator with the shape tool, and the colors with the gradient mesh tool. It was more of a challenge than I thought it would be, and I became obsessed. I've got about 12 hours in it, and pleasantly satisfied with the outcome.

Camera Lens

You know how I love my illustrations. I especially love them with the added challenge of using only the shape and pathfinder tools. This is once again all shapes, but the real challenge was getting the values just right. I wore out my swatch panel. I merged this with a previous project so you can see what's in my lens. I am pretty happy with it, but as always look out for updates.

Light Bulb

I liked working on the Corkscrew so much I wanted to do something again using the same method. I was also feeling like I wanted to do something creative on my own without an assignment. So I was walking around my apartment when I looked at this lightbulb. I made using the shape tool in Illustrator.
