I Taught Myself How to Paint..A Toucan?!

We were to use everything we've learned with color theory to create another texture project this time with an animal. Since I was running out of paints, I chose a toucan. Hoping I would run out of everything at the same time. I didn't want to have a lot of leftover in one color. So we started out with explorations in texture and colors.

During the explorations I hated painting over the texture modeling and didn't like the look once I was finished, so I decided I wouldn't use it on the toucan. I added only small parts on the flowers. So for the toucan I added implied texture and tried to emphasize the feathers.

Since it is widely known I can't paint. I used a really tiny brush and held my breath the whole time. I finished right before I passed out. I also added some glaze on the beak for some shine and what else? TEXTURE!

For my next trick a little less texture and maybe some prints?! To be continued...

<link rel='alternate' type='text/html' href='http://sarahsartstuff.blogspot.com/2011/02/yay-i-taught-myself-how-to-painta.html' title='Yay! I had a list of 50+ opposites which I narrowed down to 12. I finally picked two names on the list not words. They were Lichtenstein and Ruysch. After learning about Rachel Ruysch in art history I became obsessed with her. That was in like October and, I am still drawing floral still-lifes. They only problem I can't paint. I have had lots of design classes never a paint class. I started by picking leaves with a wide of hues, texture, and shape. I had some leftover illustration board that I didn't want to throw away so I made three small designs. I started by loosely painting the background with punchy colors that would compliment the colors of the leaves. I also exposed parts of the background by removing parts of the leaves. I also added cut paper that mimicked the edges and hue but not necessarily value of the leaves.

Lamp

I have been wanting to play with the gradient mesh tool for some time now, and the lamp on my desk had some very pretty shapes to it. Once again, the house illustration was done using all shapes. As well as the ball and chains. I enjoyed this because we got into the nitty-gritty of InDesign. It really showed me what this program can do.

Camera Lens

You know how I love my illustrations. My husband is friends with the Editor in Chief, and I of course volunteered to help this year. This project was fun because I was able to do pretty much whatever I wanted. It always challenging to put on paper what not only what I want, but more importantly the client. This is different than past Analecta posters, in that it has a more sophisticated look that depends on the typography more than on impressive graphics. This was done pretty fast though only 3-5 hours on this one. Which makes sense because we were going for more of an ad piece than art piece.

I'm Having Trouble Reading The Map

This was is the first big project in my Computer Art and Design class.
